Glenoaks, a charming cottage known as the Crowell-Saylor House on the Glendale Historic Registry, is a 41 acre property nestled in the Glenoaks Canyon. It was featured in the HBO series Westworld, as well as Architectural Digest and the LA Times, when it hit the market last, in the Spring of 2017.
Architect Sumner Spaulding, known for known for Avalon Casino on Catalina Island and Case Study No. 2 house, designed the house in 1920.
When its new owners asked interior designer Daniella Southgate to help them furnish the home, all agreed they wanted to preserve its romantic feel as well as showcase its historic details, including extensive woodwork and steel casement windows. Southgate began by designing many of the large furniture pieces for a vintage look with a custom fit. Next a layer of antiques and artwork, spanning decades and countries, were added with the intention to create the illusion of an inherited home. Accents with character and patina were personally sourced by Southgate on her travels to boutiques and flea markets in San Francisco, Lisbon, London, Paris, Marrakesh, and the South of France.
Southgate's continued work on Glenoaks includes a new French Country-style pool and bar, outdoor dining and lounging areas, a standalone guest cottage, nursery, and upstairs study with an antique library.
