Daniella Southgate’s Grand project is a downtown modern LEED certified loft. It is the first new residential high rise and green building built in Downtown Los Angeles in 20 years. It is certified by the U.S. Green Building Council and designed to be environmentally responsible, using less energy and less natural resources.

Daniella Southgate was commissioned by a bachelor who was downsizing from a two bedroom house in Los Feliz. A consistency in materials was key to creating the calm aesthetic the client craved. The majority of the furniture was custom designed by Daniella Southgate to ensure plenty of hidden storage, privacy, and a sense of separate areas, while not losing the openness of the loft layout and the natural light of the floor to ceiling windows. One of the more exciting custom designs was the TV tower that conceals the TV when not in use by rotating to a solid wood wall, allowing for the living room to feel more like a a quiet place to read or have a cocktail and converse while entertaining. In the bathroom, Semco, a material that repeated the look and feel of the building’s concrete pillars, allowed the bathroom to be remodeled without removal, a much more difficult task in an apartment building with green requirements. Semco is a sustainable material which looks like concrete but can withstand California’s earthquakes without cracking. The kitchen was also completely remodeled with custom cabinetry painted in Dunn Edwards Charcoal Briquette, and a custom waterfall island of Ceasarstone’s Cloudburst Concrete.
